More than 50 people have been bitten in the state this summer, including five people who were bitten within the space of 3 hours around the state on Sunday.

Humid weather and the expansion of Sydney's south-western suburbs into former farming and bush land has been blamed for the high number of attacks.

But the reptilian invasion isn't restricted to the premier state.

A 65-year-old Townsville man discovered his a 2.7 metre-long carpet python staked out in his toilet earlier this week.

''It's one thing to have a frog in the toilet, but not a massive python," Robert Eves told the Townville Bulletin.

Even the poor flood-ravaged community of St George has been forced to stock up on anti-venom amid increasing sightings of snakes in search of dry land.
