Madonna's latest venture is a film on the controversial marriage between American socialite Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII, a story with parallels to the Charles-Camilla saga.
Edward led the British Empire for a mere 325 days before being dethroned because of his relationship with Simpson, who was considered by those around the King to be a gold-digger.
Australian actress Abbie Cornish is signed up to star in the lead role, and Vera Farmiga has also been approached to take a role.
Madonna, who intends to direct the film, will write to Queen Elizabeth II to request permission to film at a number of Royal locations.
"Madonna is keen to make the film as authentic as possible and would be very grateful if we are allowed to film at certain locations," an unnamed associate told The Telegraph.
"She loves the UK and holds your Queen in the highest regard."
